Hi all,

We'r using a HP Color Laserjet 4600 for some of our printing needs. But when printing large files (some word documents with a couple of pictures in them) we get strange black banners over the entire width of the paper (one or two per page). If we convert the document to PDF, all prints well.
The printer has 96MB of memory..

Anybody any idea what this could be?

Tnx!

What printer driver are you using ?

That might be your problem. Check the HP web site for other drivers for that printer(pcl 5,etc).

Here's a good thing to try. Print to file and see how big the file is. Use your current printer driver, and print it to file. If the resultant file is over 96 MB (or however much RAM your printer has), don't bother printing it!

Hi all,

I installed the PCL5c driver from HP but the problem still exists.
If I print the document to a file the resultant file is only 10Mb (for one page), so that shouldn't be the problem..

Anything else I could check?

Print out the fonts list(s) from the printer control panel.
If they look ok,I would default the printer and start over.

When I reboot the printer, the printer gets stock at "initializing" or "Calebrating" and when it goes through and reboots successfuly I can not either print or use the menue. This happens regardless of connection to the network. are there any hardware trouble shooting tips I can follow to pin point the hardware problem?
