I have an HP2524 connected to an HP2626 over a laser link. Users on the 2524 are complaining of slowness. No errors on the 2524 but quite a few on the 2626. Both ports are connected at 100FDX. Should these switches be compatible.
I would start with the basics and check patch cables if you find nothing there make sure that these Gig links have their duplex set to Full 1000 instead of auto, and if you are using external transceivers try swapping them out with a known good. If all else fails, try cleaning the ends of your fiber with alcohol and canned air.
The link between the switches is a laser bridge, not fibre. The laser bridge engineer thinks the 2524 is only allowing through packets of up to 1000mtu and dropping packets with a higher mtu.
I don't see any place to set mtu on a 2524, and I seriously doubt that is your problem. WinXP's default mtu is 1500; if XP can talk at all over this link then it is passing 1500.
What errors are you getting on the 2626?
Oh and yes, your switches are compatible as shipped from the factory. You can change enough of either one's config to render them incompatible.

Apologies for delay
I have now swapped the 2626 for a 2524 but still getting errors on the port connected to the laser bridge.
