I recently upgraded a Win98 machine to WIN 2000 and since then I can't install the HP1220C driver properly.

I have the latest service pack from MS, I got the latest drivers from the HP site. Still does not work.

The only thing that prints ok is the test page.

After that, when printing from any software, it shuts it down.
When printing from the notepad, it tells me that the file HPW8SUM.DLL is not a proper windows image file.

Anyone with the same printer can help ?

Thanks !

Hello,

I support hundreds of PC's with Windows 2000 and almost every model printer HP makes from DeskJet's to Plotter's. Looks like the upgrade didn't complete cleanly.
However, I have found several bugs with the drivers from HP's site (at least they are to me, we also use Lotus Smartsuite so I'm usually fighting three monsters pointing fingers at one another). I have a greater over all success using the bundled WIN2000 drivers.

My suggestion is to readed the service note -HP Deskjet 1220c and HP Deskjet 1180c Professional Series Printer - Uninstalling the Printer Driver, Microsoft(R) Windows 2000, NT 4.0, and XP

I find my self manually uninstalling HP Printer Drivers, Windows 2000 chokes when it comes updating a corrupt driver.

Hope I helped a little.

I've tried that, deleted everything, updated win2K, and reinstalled the latest driver from the HP site and it still does not work.

The Hp is shared from a WIN98 computer and the user having WIN2K accesses the printer through the network.

Maybe it has an influence ?

Anyway, if you have another idea on this, it will be welcome !

Have you tried installing the driver as if it were a local printer, then manually change the port to //servername/sharename?

If you have the printer shared off a win98 machine and the 2000 machine is connecting to the 98 machine que for the printer this will not work.

Share the printer off the 2000 machine and add in additional drivers for the 98 machine so when a 98 machine connects it get the 98 driver.

I have lots of 1220c printers and they work fine on 2000
