Hi all,

I have an unix box and I changed the system name of the box, but when I reboot the box, it use the old name again.
From the sam I can see the system name is still the old one, so I changed the system name within the sam and logoff then login again, the new system name coming, but when I reboot, the system name back to the old one again.
I changed the following 2 files
/etc/hosts
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf

Could anybody can give me the suggestion?

Thank you very much for your help!

Victor

Hi,
When using SAM or set_parms the backup copy of /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file is created.
Move the netconf backup file to /tmp and then reboot the system.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Mewa!
I didn't find the netconf backup under /etc/rc.conf.d,
Could I move netconf to /tmp and then reboot the system?

Thanks again!

Victor

What version of HP are you using? I had to change the system name and the IP address of a new system and used the set_params command and then rebooted the box. Everything worked out fine. I would try using set_params rather than sam because sometimes sam can be buggy.

Also, check out this string for more info. thread51-63750
