HP Surestore DLT40 problem

Hi,

We have a HP Surestore DLT40 tape drive that requires a spare part. This is the reel that contains a short length of plastic tape that pulls the magnetic tape out of the tape cartridge. The small hook that actually hooks on to the end of the tape has broken off. does anyone know where I can get one of these from.
From searching the internet I can find lots of companies that will fix the drive but none that will sell me the part. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all How long have you had the drive..If under 3 years then contact HP technical support to get it exchanged under warranty..has the leader broken off completely or just dropped..If all leds on Right hand side are flashing then your drive has a dropped leader..Check this URL on how to rethread a dropped leader.

Only try this if your drive is Out of warranty as by opening the drive will invalidate the it.

I don't know any where of which you can by the leader but I would try Quantum as all DLTs are Quantum OEM

Hi,

The leader has actually broken. A few months ago I had to rethread the leader but this time its completely broken off. The drive is no longer under warranty.
