HP PSC 2210 - It feeds the paper but won't print

Hi,
I would be really grateful if anyone could give me a hint on how to solve the following problem:

When I command the printer (PSC 2210 All-in One) to print (out of any program) the printer starts working as normal: the paper is fed and when it's about to print, it spits the paper blank.
I can print a test page from the HP toolbox and also it can print the details of head alignment etc., but it won't print a test page if commanded in the properties box of the printer.
Thus, the problem is not that the printer can't print - since it clearly does - but for some reason it won't print anything "external" to its toolbox functions.

I have unistalled (fully!) the software and re-installed it (fully; including patches), and still see no progress.

The printer has some 4 years and has always worked well (even with my computer under the current configuration), but from a certain point in time (which I cannot identify)this problem arose.

Please help!!! Thank you very much.

Miguel.

I have seen this problem before with exactly the same type of machine, but it is a few years ago so I must think really hard to remember how we solved it. At least you know that "youre not alone" ;-)

The only thing I can right away think about is a setting that stays where it is, however much you uninstall/reinstall. Just to exclude a problem wit the printer itself, try installing and using it on another machine. If you have the same result there it must be a hardware problem anyway.

Thank you for your reply, YellowOnline. Indeed, now I know I'm not alone...

I forgot to say in the original post that the printer works fine with my wife's laptop; so it rules out any hardware problem.

It would be great if you could recall the nature of the problem.

Thanks again to anyone that can help.

For the problem on the computer with the issue, I'd say try uninstalling all the program files for the printer - add/remove programs part.

Then make sure that the driver is gone from the print server on the computer (Control Panel - Printers/Faxes - File->Server Properties ->Drivers Tab, make sure any instances of the printer driver (or anything related) is deleted ("removed").

Restart the machine.

Next, use a registry cleaner to clean the registry - I prefer RegScrubXP Pro, myself, though it's no longer supported. It's free, and you can still find it at
When that's done, restart again, and reinstall your printer - see if that works!

Sorted !!!
For future reference of anyone with the same problem, please see below:

In contact with the HP tech support online I was able to identify the problem (even though I'd never though of looking there):

under "My computer" properties, in the "Advanced tab", "Performance" settings, "Data Execution Prevention Tab", the first option had to be checked: "Turn on DEP for essencial Windows programs and services only".

I had the second option checked ("Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select") and had a list bellow with exceptions. I believe if I wanted to maintain these setting, i had to had an option in this list called "Generic Host Process" to check, but I didn't, so I went with the "Turn on DEP for essencial Windows programs and services only" route.

Thank you to those who read the thread and tried to help,
Miguel.
