I have a HP DeskJet 870Cse that I've used for 3 - 4 years using windows 98.....no issues. I recently installed Windows XP (Clean Install) and I can't get it to work no matter what I try!

I've been to the HP site for the best driver and all they want to do is give the procedure to install it from the XP disk......which I had already done....and re-done...and re-done. It simply doesn't want to work with XP....and talk about no help from the HP or Microsoft sites!

I apologize for sounding sinical but thus far....I've had to struggle with every periphiral device I have....so much for XP making things easier.

Anyone have any ideas????

Many Thanks

try an 890c driver it worked for me Tamra Graver --CNA

What's the exact message you get when you try to use the printer? Jennifer Sigman
STILL unemployed...

Also, how is the printer connected? I'm assuming that it could be USB or Parallel. Does Device Manager show any problems?

Found the problem. Apparently, I'm guessing a little, that XP changed the BIOS to enable Plug and Play.

My LPT port was set to auto preventing it from working properly with the plug and play setting enabled.

I changed the LPT setting to enabled and now it works.

I still feel, if this was the issue, that xp should have offered a little more assistance with this problem. Hell, I was ready to go back to Win 98!

Anyways....Thanks for your support as always!
