When I start up the comp, the monitor light turns orange from green, and nothing displays...
I checked to see if it was plugged in, and I also tried unplugging the video card and pluging it back in...(AGP)...it still turns orange.
I have also tried replacing the pwoer cable, and no difference.
And I have also tried starting the computer up with no harddrive to see if it would make a difference, but no difference yet again...
When I took the harddrive out and put it into a different comp., I cannot delete anything, and I can't access my main accounts folder in /Documents and Settings/
Help?

I have an hp monitor that acts strange also. It has a mode button on the front, and I have to change the mode to get video to come on, durring tests I see that on user mode it has brightness and contrast at 0, I can set them and after a power cycle of the monitor it sets them to zero again. Which points to an issue with the eeprom of the monitor, but since I can hit the mode switch and it works, it doesn't bother me as on system 8 and is hardly used, except on lan night. Have you tried another monitor on the pc?

Yes, I tried another monitor, but the same thing kept happening..

Actually, I kind of got it working. I took out the BIOS battery, and waited about 15 seconds because I needed to anyways, and it worked! The disply works now! BUT, there is another problem. I have 2 harddrives in my computer. One is a 40gig, and one is a 6 gig for testing purposes. When the 6 gig is plugged it, everything is fine. When i plug in the larger harddrive, nothing works normally (as in, no display anymore).

Have you tried the 40 gb hdd in another pc? or hooked up to the other ide chain? It is possible for the on board controller of the hdd to kill the bus...If it works without the hdd, and can't get the hdd to work on another pc, or second ide channel, it might be bad, also check the jumper setings of the hdd's and where they are on the cable....you have effectively ruled out a monitor issue, it is a problem with the hdd or ide controller on the motherboard,or both. config, cable, drive, or controller.

Ok, I finally have it working, and I am on the PC I had troubles with earlier. I've had problems with the harddrive (40gig) some quite some time now. I have not had a problem for about a week before *this* happened. Before I had been experiencing random crashes...then on reset, it would not detect the harddrive. All of the cables are connected, and the jumper is set to master. I am still not completely sure if it is totally fixed, but for the time being it is ok.
