Hi all,

I have a HP LaserJet 5N which keeps jamming all the time. The paper gets stuck when exiting the fuser unit and therefore the next page coming through is stuck below the toner.

I have already changed the fuser unit and chaged the toner.

Does anyone have any other sugegstions for me please?

Thanks.

Gavin.

There are a couple of friction levers at the fuser that must be set flat--pushed in to make friction contact with the rollers that pull the paper from the fuser. Check this. I have left them set sticking out and it causes the exact same symptoms you have described.

David.

Hi David,

I took out the fuser all together and put it back in again. That seems to have solved the problem and looks like what you suggested could have been the cause.

Thanks.

Gavin.

Thanks for the star! It is greatly appreciated.

This problem has just reoccured chaps! I need further suggestions please!! I am just heading back upstairs with my screwdriver to re-seat the fuser again!

Hi David,

Before you mentioned the friction levers on the fuser unit? I am unsure of where I can locate these. There is a lever which easily comes down when pushed on the back of the fuser when it is sat in the printer - is this the lever that you are refering to? This lever looks like it need to be free to move up and down rather then set in position.

Can you please advise asap.

Thanks.

Gavin.

The problem that you are having is caused by the Upper and Lower Exit Delevery Rollers. They become hard, slick and worn. The paper usually folds up like a fan in the back of the printer and causes a paper jam. The only long term fix is to replace the Upper and Lower Delivery Rollers or the whole Delivery Assembly. This should take care of your problem.

gavm99, you are correct on that lever needing to move if it is the paper sensor lever. What you are describing sounds like it may be being caused by the paper delivery assy. Does the jammed paper appear to be fan-folded at all? If so then it is likely the delivery assy. You can replace it as an assy or order just the rollers if you wish. This is a very common problem on both the LJ4 and the LJ5 series printers.

While you are waiting for your new rollers to arrive, take a small piece of #400 sandpaper and lightly sand the existing rollers side to side just a little. Kind of like re-treads. Cleans everything up good before you close the covers.

David.
