HP Laserjet 4600 Leaky Toner Cartridge

I have an HP Laserjet 4600hdn - I recently replaced a magenta cartridge, the supplies status on the printer indicated it was empty. When I removed the old cartridge from the printer the toner leaked everywhere, it was pouring out in a stream.

Has anyone else had this experience? I'm worried that the cartridge wasn't really exhausted - there was so much toner pouring out of that thing.

I just replaced another cartridge - the cyan one - and it did the same thing.

We also have 4 HP 8150s and I have never had toner leak from empty cartridges like this before. I'm wondering if this is some flaw or problem with the 4600 cartridges - or maybe a sensor.

there are no current service notes posted by hp at this time about this subject.
i have seen this problem with reman toners...are you using reman toners?
most of the 4600 series machines i have seen run very dirty as well as the 4500 and 8500 series.
i have heard of a problem hp is having with the seals on the 4500 and 4600 toner cartridges but, i have not seen any official word yet.

Thanks for your reply. We are using HP toner cartridges. Based on what you said - I wouldn't be surprised about the leaky seals.

Some important info here
There were problems earlier with the toners for both the LJ4600 and 5500, but they were also solves quite some time ago.
HP LaserJet print cartridges are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. HP LaserJet Cartridges: Warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship until low cartridge life is indicated on the printer control panel, the Supplies Status Page or until the original HP toner is depleted.
If the toners came with your printer, contact your nearest HP phone tech support, and they will send you new toners for free if they are faulty. If the toners were bought at a re-seller, they will exchange the toners for you.
If there is any seal or funny label on the toners, they are probably NOT original HP toners

Note ! Even if you have signed a supportpack on your HP printer, you will loose ANY support if you are using NON-HP toner !

We also have the same problem, although they don't start to leak until they have about 25% toner remaining. We use Original HP toners so are they still guaranteed and can be replaced?

Yes they are. Just go to your re-seller with the leaky cartridges and they will replace them at no cost.

I have an 4600DN Laser printer, my user have no permissions to print copies in color, but they go to printer properties and change that permission, how can I block them not to used the properties if I have Windows 98 and XP.

We had this problem; the cartridges are defective;contact the vendor or hp and they should replace them.

I remanufacture the 4500 I haven't done the 4600 yet but I can tell you that they are dirty machines. If the seal isn't working properly they will dump alot toner. the toner in the color is not like the old type of toner which had Iron in it and used a mag roller to attract the toner . The new toner is chemical based and so if the seal is not holding it in transportation it will got past the developer roller and into all the little nooks and crany's and then dump everywhere.
