HP LaserJet 4100 Error 51.2 Printer Error

Just had this error pop up today. I cycle power, clear things out, and try to print again. Same error occurs. It sounds as though some moving part (fuser assembley?) is having trouble moving just before printer stops cold and spits out error code. If you can point me in the right direction, I will appreciate it.

That is a 'temporary printer error'. The recommended procedure is to power down completely, then back up. It should work OK then.
If you still get the error, it could be a bad fuser board in the printer.

OOPS, I meant a bad fuser OR a bad board. Sorry for the confusion.

51.2 error is a laser/scanner error. Looks like time to replace the laser.

Try reseating the cable for the laser first, we have to sometimes push each contact on the cable on each pin, if that doesn't work it is most likely the laser assembly.

I have a broken 4100 that I've been saving for parts. Actually it's okay except the manual feed acted weird and the Tray 1 door later got removed and broken. Once you determine what's wrong maybe I have a part.

I have chatted with hp online (mostly a waste of time). They will not point me to a service manual or tell me how to access the laser/scanner so that I can examine it and its cable. Can you tell me how to access the laser/scanner and its cable? Thank you.

The laser/scanner is under the top cover. The small back right side cover has to come off first, then the control panel snaps off. Be careful with this because the wire is right below this and is quite short. After that is removed, there are four screws holding the top on. Two under the access cover and two on the rear behind the face-up tray in back. The toner arm has to be removed from the access cover before the top can be removed. There are three connectors and a ground wire on the laser assy. Then all that holds the laser down is four large-headed screws. The laser can then be lifted out. Be sure to notice the position of the shutter arm before you take out the laser. If you don't, the laser shutter won't open and you'll get blank pages.

Hello,

I connected an old HP LaserJet 4 printer to parallel port on my computer running Window XP professional edition.

The printer was power on and went through a self-test and warm up state then to ready state to be used without any problem.

I use control panel from window to add this printer. It was added without problem.

I then printed a test page to see if the printer is working correctly or not. Instead of printing a correct test page the printer printed out garbage. Many printed pages were printed out with strange characters.

How can i make the printer print correctly.

I went to HP web site and downloaded the lj631en.exe. However when i run this executable file it unzipped to a folder named "lj631en". I look at this folder there are many files in it. I don't know what to do with them. To my experience with the modern printer, when a user run an executable driver it will install the driver and put to the "C:\program files" folder. But this executable was not doing so.

So please help me to solve the printing garbage problem. What should i do with the lj631en.exe driver?
