Hi,

I wonder if any one has seen this problem and know how to solve it.

We have a 4000tn set up on the network through a Novell queue.

When a user prints to tray 3 the printer jams on every 3rd or so page but not where you would expect it would seem like the rollers ate not running for long enough as the paper gets stuck at the output of the printer after the fuser once removed and the top lid id opened and close and the printer is put back on line it is ok for a couple of pages. this only happens when printing from tray 3?

If any one has got any clue as to why this is happening or I have not made my self clear enough please post a reply and I will either give it a go or explain the problem.

Many Thanks.

Nick

Try cleaning all of the feed rollers with alcohol. This is usually the culprit. They tend to get slick after awhile, and the alcohol cleans them and allows them to grip the paper again.

Hi,

I am sorry I should have said and it was an assumption on my part, but I have cleaned all the rollers checked the fuser I have even changed a couple of the feed rollers as they looked old, I have changed the toner just in case but nothing like that has helped.

But I have just swapped the 3rd tray with another 4000t we have and they are both ok I am going to leave and let the users use they for a day as see what happens...

Many Thanks

Nick

When you get the jam what is the error code that is displayed?
The most common is 13.1, a paper late error thats is usually caused by worn out seperation rollers. If both seperation rollers have there texture worn off they will need replacing. There is one roller in the paper tray and one located just above it in the printer.
If the error code if different can you post what it is, it will help locate the cause of your problem.

Hi,

I have swapped the trays back so I can get the error code from the printer but it is now fine (strange) the users are going to let me know if the problem returns but as the printer is used quite heavily I have said that if the problem has not come back by 17:00 today I will be closing the call on are helpline.

If the problem returns I will post the error but if not many thanks for all you help.

Nick

Hi,

The error has returned and it is the 13.1 Paper jam I am goint to replace the rollers again for my own peace of mind.

Any other suggestions will be greatfully recived.

I have encounterd some of the problems in our office, and what we found was that the paper that was being used was thinner then the last order we had.We chhaned rollers every 15 days untill a new load of paper was received and it was a bit thicker .. After that we did not have the error anymore or the jamming...

Hi,

well I think are problem was that some one and possibly even me has put the 2 rollers the wrong way around. Correct me if I am wrong but I would seem that the feed and seperater rollers are different one is slightly smaller than the other.

either that or the problem just went away on its own the papar was the same and has not changed.

My manuals are at home, so I can't give you the Chilton's name for each roller, but the 2 rollers you are referring to are identical.

There are four more D shaped rollers just behind the 2nd round roller, they will come with the maintenance kit, which depending on what your page count is at, may not be a bad idea to install.

... there is also a clutch involved on the paper tray. The clutch is right next to the roller, and looks like it has a metal band around it. I have had these clutches go out before; they're only a few $$$ to replace. If you're going to replace the rollers, you may want to replace the clutch as well.

The roller doesn't use a direct-drive, the shaft turns, and the roller locks into the clutch, allowing for slip. If there's too much slip, it won't feed the paper all the way. If there's too little (rarely the case) the paper can tear because of speed differences when entering the main printing unit.
