HP LaserJet 3055 Top Feeder scanner leaves a line along the copy 1

Hello,

Our HP LaserJet 3055 All-In-One Printer has started leaving marks on pages as they are scanned. The marks appear to be 1-2 inches from the fight side of the page. they appear as a thin straight line as if someone has marked a line with a pen and a ruler.

This is only occurring when using the top feeder scanner and not the flatbed.

I have taken a look at the printer and i cannot see what would ba making the mark.

Any ideas?

Try clean the small glas plate and the white reflector below the ADF. If the scanning works from the flatbed it has to be dirt causing the streak.

Not necessarily, wiz, it could be from a staple scratching the glass, or a bit of white-out smeared on it. I have also seen that the exit rollers under the ADF can be dirty and cause this. Drove me crazy till I cleaned them.

Well since the line appears thin and straight it is obvious to me it has to be something blocking the light reflection of the paper being scanned.
If it had been a stuck staple or paper clip (a secretary can be unpredictable sorry !) I think there would have been some sort of either smear of perhaps even physical marks on the paper. But of course dirt can find it's way in anywhere in a printer/scanner.
I found the best way to keep this printers ADF scanner operational is to regularly remove the ADF feed roller by detaching the spring and also remove the paper guidance before applying a few dozes of compressed air blowing away any dirt. Afterwards clean both the glas below and the white plastic reflector plate with propyle alcohol.
Before reinstalling the feedrollers you can wash these gently with mild soap and water. After two-three years of operation they will need to be replaced as the rubber gets worn and hard (dries out) causing small cracks to appear that "magically" attracts paperdust and dirt making them so smooth that they spin around at the end of their life not feeding anything.
