Hello, I have an HP laptop and all of a sudden the ac adapter did not wanted to work. At first I thought it was the AC adapter, but I bought a new and same problem. The laptop does not show any light or anything, I took it apart to reset the cpu and things like that but no luck. I think its the motherboard, what do you guys think??? If you guys think it is where can I buy a used motherboard for an HP

First pull the main battery out to see if this makes a difference. It could also be the power socket in the laptop. Replacing the mother board in a laptop is not a job you want to do. Very tiny parts, thin ribbon cables that crack very easily, and you need the proper service manual to even get started. The big problem is that you have to put it ALL back together to check it out! Unless it is an old unit that you can afford to lose - take it to a shop that can guarantee it's work.

I have had this sort of thing happen to a few laptops here. If the battery is faulty it can have this affect, do as micker377 suggests & remove the battery, then plug the mains adapter in. If you can switch the machine on, you will need to replace the battery.
Also the other suggestion from micker377 about the power socket is very important. It may seem OK from the outside, but the socket may have become loose on the motherboard. You would need to remove the mobo from the case & resolder the joints if this is the case. I have only done this on laptops that are out of warranty. Sometimes the plastic on the socket also breaks down if the socket starts moving on the mobo.
If you are not confident with a soldering iron or taking the machine apart, then take it or send it to a qualified laptop repair specialist.

Removing the battery is a must to troubleshoot issues like this, especially on HP laptops. In addition to removing the battery, unplug the AC power. Then hold the power button down for approx. 30 seconds which drains capacitors on the mobo. Then ONLY plug the AC cord back in and try to power it on.

...remove the battery, then plug the mains adapter in. If you can switch the machine on, you will need to replace the battery.

Although removing the battery might bring the laptop back to life, that doesn't necessarily mean it needs replaced. Laptops get stuck in this "sleep" mode occasionally, even with new batteries.

Thanks for the tip on that one cdogg. I have never heard that before. Worth remembering though.
Cheers
