HP Laptop ZT1000 Will not start up.

Hi,
I have a ZT1000 series HP Laptop. I took it apart and had another power jack soldered on. When I got it put back together, it will not start up completely and nothing appears on the screen.

All of the lights come on, and when I hit the power button I hear the sound of the fan and it sounds as if it's gonna start up, but then it just stops. I can't get anything.

I've checked the screen connections, and the hard drive is only 2 months old. It just will not continue the startup process.

Is there something that I could be doing wrong. I've went through it 3 times and everything I see is in place.

double-check that all hardware is plugged-in/seated properly: HDD's, CPU, RAM, etc etc etc.

Hi again,
Everything is plugged in as far as I can see. I know it's not the hard drive because it would at least go far enough for me to get into the BIOS.

Would the computer not start up if the RAM was shot? Nothing lights up on the screen when I turn it on. Would a defective screen cause the PC not to boot? I don't think it's the screen because it doesn't boot up far enough for anything to light up.

It has to be the RAM or the Processor. Like I said, everything is it up and working on the laptop, it just will not startup. It comes on, the fan starts and then everything goes quiet.

Any suggestions?

Bad ram will cause video card not to turn on. Ive had it happen in an old board. However I dont know if thats your problem or not but ram will cause that. As far as processor ive yet to have a bad one of those "knock on wood lol".

a defective video card or on board video chip would cause the computer to not boot up, I am not sure about a defective screen but I don't that would prevent boot up.

If it was working before you installed the power jack, then all I can surmise is you damaged something while the laptop was open.

Might be time for a trip to the repair shop unless someone else has a suggestion.

Although probally not the problem wouldnt hurt checking all your soldier joints making sure none are touching that shouldnt be. Easy to accidently solder onto another trace without realizing it.
