HP HD HELP 1

Hi, i just bought a new pc and wanted to install my other pc's OS on it, its a HP a1040n, the OS IS XP Media Center. After i load the cd's drivers etc.. windows doesnt load as it should, its just a black screen saing such and such drivers couldnt be loaded =(, does anyone have experience working with HPs?

What is the old OS? You will probably need to use your system restore cds that came with the new HP pc in order to get it up and running again.

Sounds like you tried to perform a "downgrade

it was home edition, i tried to install media ed. b/c i have a tv tuner i wanna install also

I would suggest that you first "zero" the HD out on you new machine prior to trying to install any new OS as a matter of rule.

If the HP came with OEM XP Home, there could also be a hidden partition on the HD that HP uses for restoring. This will also ne to be removed.

re-Partition drive as you want > format > then install OS.

success! it took 3 overwrites of the HD but i finally got media center to run on theyre HD, i called HP for help but they refused to, saying it voids the warranty, but it wasnt stated anywhere onthe page/site didnt tell me that i HAD to use hoem ed. when i bought the pc.. anyways thnx so much for the help all!
