I'm in a bit of a delemma, there are way to many printers in my firm. I see some groups with ratio's of users to printer as 1:3

I am looking at the following for EOL:
Laserjet 4
Laserjet 5
Laserjet 8000
laserjet 8150

1)in your opinion what is the proper ratio for printer to users? My feeling is depending on the printing needs 1 printer should be good for up to 12 people. but im guessing thats incorrect.

2)does anyone have a schedule of printers by HP that should be end of life?

Jnalpak,

IMHO, I'd say the proper ratio depends heavily on the
workload of the printer(s). We have over 500 employees
and have an average employee/printer ratio of about 6:1
for our network printers. Some employees have "slave"
printers connected directly to their pc's. We use all
HP products from Deskjet 970's to Laserjet 8550's, with
the majority being Laserjet 4050's (these are already
obsolete, so as parts/supplies start to get scarce, we
are replacing them with 4200,4250,4300 and 4350 models).
From what I can gather from the HP website, the LJ4 series,
LJ5 series and LJ8000's are already past EOL, although
some parts/supplies still remain. The replacement models
are: LJ4=4250; LJ5=5550; LJ8000=9050. The LJ8150 is still
good. Hope this helps.

While they may be old printers, I know of techs that swear by them. The old 4 and 5's are tanks. We actually use that for our Service printer. As far as a ratio, it depends on the amount printed, and the capability of the printer. A 4300 will be able to handle more than a 4, because it prints so much faster. But that 4 could be moved to an area or person that does less printing, and could run forever.

Have a nice day today, and a better day tomorrow!!!
