HP DV6000 wont charge and power on

Hi all, i have a HP dv6000 that worked fine all along(separate from the overheating issues). I used it at work and then took it home to see it not powering up. I figured it needed charging but noticed that the charge led at the front doesnt come up. I checked the charger with a volt meter and it reads correctly with no shorts from rattling the wires. I now notice that the blue led around the charging port pulses when i plug it in for charging..but still not charging.

Does anyone have any experience with this and/or knows the solution to fixing this issue.

Did the blue led PULSE previously when it charged up successfully or is this new behavior?

It could be a bad DC jack where it connects to the motherboard (very common and about a $75 fix) OR it could be a bad mobo.

That's why I asked if the behavior has changed. My guess is "professional diagnosis" needed at this point. I would repair a bad DC jack but probably NOT a motherboard from a money/value standpoint.

meter the battery terminals, may be a bad battery, internal short on one of the cells.

It's NOT battery-related if the laptop won't start up - period. A laptop will start regardless of a dead/shorted/no battery situation if everything else is okay.

One other thing to try is:
disconnect/remove battery
wait 2 minutes
press power button and hold it about 30 seconds
press power button about 5 times in rapid succession (no holding)
do NOT put battery back in
connect AC adapter
press power button


Does it start up?

Well I don't mean to disagree, but yes I have seen a battery fail in a way that it will not power on the laptop, period. Took the battery out, and it would start and run from the charger/power supply. It was a Dell 1501. The battery was purchased from ebay and it was a cheap after market battery, and power supply. I didn't buy it. Put in the old battery that would only hold about a 20 min. charge, and it would run.

Hey all, Thanks for the suggestions, goombawaho the blue LED around the charger port didnt pulse before when the laptop was operational...It was just a steady blue led. I will try your other suggestion and see how that goes. Ph one more thing to note. The next day after it had the issue..i left it plugged in overnight and managed to get it on but it was very weak. It showed a dead battery sign and was only on long enough to retrieve a few files. Ever since that day, i havent gotten it back up using that method.

I tried goombawaho other suggestion and it didnt work. LEd still pulses even without the battery installed and doesnt turn on the laptop. Ive been told that there is a separate small board for the charging port. Im wondering if it is damaged. But it would be really weird considering that there was nothing done to the laptop before it was damaged. It was powered up on my desk and wasnt even plugged in. CLosed it, took it home and then ..voila..problems. Really strange

yep, I agree Goom, just trying to cover the bases. Blackchiney, is it possible that it took a knock on the trip home, and something came loose? Or check what the code means, at hp here.

Your code seems to mean insufficient power from the power brick.

The O/P said they checked the AC adapter with a voltmeter, which proves voltage but not the ability to carry a load. However, I would say it's most likely where the DC jack is connected to the motherboard.

If someone you knew had another AC adapter, that would be a way to narrow it down more toward the DC jack.

I have tried locating someone who has the same model but to date no avail. Im thinking its the adapter port board that has the issue. I guess i will have to take it to an experienced technician because it doesnt seem like an issue that i can just fix by pressing a few buttons.
