I am hooked up to two printers at work. When I print say an A4 poster on our laserjet the work comes out fine. If I print it on my deskjet the work comes out off centred, by that I mean the margins at the top and bottom are uneven. I am using windows xp so was wondering if this might be causing the problem. Can anyone help.

Thanks

There is a setting in the printer for A4==>Letter Since A4 and Letter (8.5x11) are so close in size, the printer will adjust.

If you are using A4 paper specifically, though, you need to turn off that translation, so the printer doesn't re-adjust the page size to fit on letter when in fact you are using A4.

I have tried changing the settings but still have the problem. The problem is best highlighted when I use illustrator. As soon as I want to use my deskjet the document settings change and the printout is off centred. I am very puzzled!

I don't use Illustrator, but I know in Microsoft Word, for example, there's some defaults that need to be set up.

I'll give you an example; every time I went to print labels on our color laser, even though I told the print dialogue to pull from the bypass tray, it would still pull from the main tray.

What I found is that I had to select the printer, so the proper printer properties were available, then go into the page setup and change the settings there.

Moral of the story is; double-check your page setup, and don't just rely on the print dialogue. Some programs (like word) can override the selections in the print dialogue.

Hope this helps.
