HP Deskjet 697c - colors are wierd! URGENT!

I am using Win 98, and an HP 697c Deskjet printer. I have uninstalled the printer and Photo imaging software, but my photos still print out funny. The pics degrade every 1/2 inch. The first 1/2 inch is perfect, the next, I lose my magenta pigment, and it gets worse. By the last 1/2 inch, the picture is so grainy, I can't even tell what it is! I have brand new ink cartridges in the printer, have cleaned and alligned everything...now what?

Please help - I need the pictures printed up by tomorrow! (Wed)

Try using the generic HP 550c drivers to see if it makes a difference.
