Hi,

I have a HP autoloader which I can not see in Backup exec, it is running on Windows 2000 which sees the Tape unit as well as the Autoloader.
When I start the device configuration wizzard it only detects a singe (ultrium) tape unit, but not the library in which the unit is mounted.

What can I do to install the autoloader in Backup Exec 8.6 ?

thanks

Have u enabled multi lun support in the SCSI card BIOS so that it can see both devices?

You say Windows sees the library but BE doesn't. First thing to check....do you have the Library Option for BE?

I have installed the Library option during the installation of BE, I have reinstalled it a couple of times, but still no Library.

"Have u enabled multi lun support in the SCSI card BIOS so that it can see both devices?"

I haven't checked "multi lun" support, do I have to configure it during the boot process ?
I'll have a look at that.

Just to make sure Veritas is recognizing the Library Option...in BE, right click on Help. Go down to About Veritas Backup Exec. Click on that and you should be able to see the list of your BE licenses. Is the Library Expansion Option in that list? If not, BE doesn't recognize that you have a Library and it will treat it as a single tape drive.

I have the Open Option Suite as license key, on other servers at other locations I am using this kind of license also and that is working with a library.

Yep check multi lun support in the BIOS of the SCSI controller - for Adaptec's its Ctrl-A at bootup when it asks you.

Check adaptec's or your scsi card manufacturers website on how to do this - can't find anyting on the veritas website.

As for robotic library support - you don't need a license for it unless you have a multi drive library, or multiple libraries attached to the same server.

Allright,

I have found out that the controller where it is attached to now does support Tape Libraries.
The server is located at another site and is a Proliant DL380, the library is now attached to a Smart Array 5i controller. I found on the website that is doesn't support libraries.

according to the device manager of the server there is also a HP Netraid 1si in the server and an Adaptec AIC-7892 controller.
I couldn't find out yet if these controllers support a library.

the AIC-7892 will support the library OK - seeing it is in a Proliant, it may be already LUN enabled.

Dont use the netraid 1si - as again it is a RAID controller and tape drives are not supported on it.

Thanks for your answer,

I'll first check out which of the connectors is the AIC-7892 then I'll make sure someone is attaching the library to it, it's located in another country so I can't do it myself.

There is a strange thing, I only have one external SCSI connector, but in the device manager it shows three SCSI devices.
