I have an hp 9110i cd writer and I can't seem to get it to burn at 8x. I bought the drive a little over a year ago and had it on my old system, an amd k6-2 400 with 128mb of ram, a 7200 rpm ibm deskstar drive. I could not get it to burn at 8x reliable. I thought that my old system wasn't fast enough. So I finally upgraded to a new system:
p4 1.5ghz
256 rdram pc-800
40 7200 rpm drive ultradma 100
20 7200 rpm drive ultradma 100
asus p4t-e mobo

I thought that the new system would be able to burn at 8x, but alas, no!

This is the second machine that the drive doesn't work on!

I am using ez cd creator 5.0 platinum in windows xp pro.

Does anybody have any ideas on what I could try, or good fast drives that will work? I contacted HP but they blame the software. I have tried a number of software packages: nero ,clonecd and a few others. I am going to try installing this drive into another computer and see if it works.

What really peevee's me is that my buddy with a system similar to my old one can get this drive, the same as my, to burn at 8x!

I don't know if you already did this or not, but there's a patch on roxio's website to update Easy CD for Windows XP. Also be sure the blanks you're using are not cheap ones and are certified as 8x or higher if you're getting bad burns.

Other than that I'm at a loss. Good Luck.
