Up until yesterday my 4 year old hp840c printer would (after the comp was booted) turn itself on automatically and print when I sent a print job to the printer.(What I mean is that I did not have to first press the power button on the printer). As of yesterday when I disconnected and then reconnected the usb cable between the printer and my comp, the printer (when the comp is first booted), will only turn on and print when I manually press the power button on the printer. Once on, the printer will print without problems, even if I then turn off the printer by pressing the power button and send a print job the printer will automatically turn on again and print. BUT if I then turn off the printer AND the computer and reboot, the printer will then not automatically turn on when I send it a print job until of course I turn it on manually as above. How can I regain the auto on printing feature? I must be missing something. Thanks in advance for any help.

Might be related to the usb port. You might try uninstalling the printer driver(s),then reinstalling them.

Found out what was wrong! I unplugged power and the usb cable to the printer. Booted the comp and then plugged in power to the printer and plugged in the usb cable. Windows recognised the "new" hardware and I have the auto on feature on the printer running again!
