Hi - We are a non profit, and had an HP 4550n color laser donated with full toner cartridges, and a drum indicating about 20% life left. When we initially ran configuration reports and the test print (full color sample) everything looked great! Then later trying to run 10 copies of a brochure to plain paper, a black line started to appear and every new page it would be in a different place and a different degree of darkness. It was black.

We followed all of the cleaning procedures found on the HP site, but still haven't replaced the drum. We printed a series of pages in color, and after about 7 pages, we note that the band returns...

Any ideas on what could be causing this? They are vertical bands, and inconsistent in their position on the page... is it the drum?

Thanks!

proably is not the drum. If it was the drum it should appear at the same spot on the page everytime. Is the band always black? If it is I would try replacing the black cartridge, it could be leaking.
