Print servers:win2000 service pack 3
WAN / Citrix environment

We have just installed a number of HP 4200 on local print servers in various offices.

When a user comes to print, either using a macro or just FILE PRINT, the print jobs goes as normal, but the users session then freezes for upto 10 secs (dependant on size of doc).

We have ensured that we have background printing etc and use the PCL 6 driver.

Funny thing is, when a user prints to another printer, say a colour HP4550, the jobs goes as it should do and allows the user to continue working

Any thoughts?

We ran into similar problems with our 4200's using the 4200 driver. We just changed the driver on the printserver to a LaserJet 5si...it fixed all of our issues.

Just spoken to a an analyst who informs me that it could be service pack 3 as they are running it on service pack 4 and the don't have this problem.

We are going to install sp4 this afternoon.

Installed SP4 and started to get problems:

Server would not reboot, so had to be turned off.
On rebooting it took for ever to restart and logon.
None of our users could see the printers or print.

We then restarted and stopped the spooler services about 3 times, which eventually cured it.

Users are now reporting that the printers are working alot faster and do not 'freeze' when printing.

On that same kind of printer serving similarly to Pavlov's, all of a sudden the LCD shows nothing. It is brightly lit, but no messages are there.

Any thoughts?

We rebooted the server last Tuesday and i am led to believe that there were no problems the next day as everbody could print as normal.
