I own a HP 1700cp. All colour inks are expired and only the black one works. however the printer wont let me print even a simple text in grayscale. It demands that i place new colour inks. how can i cheat and make it work without replacin the ink cartridges???they are almost full...seems like HP wants us to pay 100Euros each year to keep that thing working..

It may not work on Hp printers, but I've cheated on other printer types before by removing the cartridge while you're up in the computer. Then reinstall it and see if the printer program sees the change. If it does and asks if it is a new cartridge, then say yes. It will then make it full.

If it does not, then you can open the software manually and navigate to the tab that shows the ink levels. You should be able to set it to a "new" cartridge and get around the problem. Unfortunately I can't be more specific than that.

Good luck,
Mike

Hey, thanx for the tip put this won't work on this printer. it seems that the cartridges have some chip on them where the expiration date is written. I need some firmware patch that will cheat this thing and make the cartridge work even if its expired.

In that case, you will need a chip resetter device. I saw that the same companies that sell cartridge refill kits also sell reset devices. I'm sorry that I don't have a particular recommendation on that product.
