Hp 1100 setup bombs out

Computer says can't find software for printer.

When running setup from starter CD, get error message that a severe error has occurred-reboot and retry.

After rebooting same thing happens.

LaserJet 1100 ? If using Windows OS try the driver that is built into windows.

I am running Windows ME on an E machine with 256m RAM.
About 6 months ago a got a hp business inkjet 1100d printer with a duplexer and installed it. It has beeen working fine.

Now I get a message that the computer cannot find the software.

Tried to reinstall the printer software using the starter CD.

I got this error message from the "Installer Information" screen:

Internal Error 2893
Cl_PrinterName,EditMulti,
hp business inkjet 1100 series


After licking OK, the next sreen comes up and then I get this message:

Name must be less than 23 characters

The name displayed is "hp business inkjet series 1100" which comes from the software.

After deleting 2 characters and clickking OK, Setup runs until copying Plug and Play Files; then I get this message:

The hp business injet 1100 Series Setup program has encountered a severe error and will now exit.
Restart your computer and run Setup again.

I reboot and rerun Setup and get the same error messages.

How old is the driver CD ?
Try check with an updated driver or a patch and see if that would help :

Even a firmware update found on the same page might do the trick. Good luck

The setup CD is about 6 months old.

Downloaded a new driver and got the same results as with the starter cd

Patch would't work because there was no program to apply it to..
