I've set up a test environment to investigate deploying policies. The first policy I'm looking at is forcing the use of a proxy server. I'm trying to keep it on the User side, as I don't want it to be applied to IT staff.

How do I do this? I've tried setting up OUs, groups & policies, but I can't get it to work. I know I'm missing something, but can't figure out what.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

you set this up in a gpo and link it to an OU.

you can set 'per machine' or user by user.

google for "policysettings.xls" and you'll find a complete excel list of policies and where and what they do.

Ok, I've got it working, but now how I'd like.

WHat I've done is create an OU called Standard Users. I've applied a policy to this OU called Proxytest.

If I move the Test user (Called atest) into the Standard Users OU it works fine. However, I'm trying to use a group, but when I put the group (Called proxy) into the Standard Users OU it fails to run.

How do I get it to work with user groups?

Any ideas??

I have a group in my setup called internetusers, from here I have a group policy that simply sets the proxy information into the internet settings and I also remove the connection tab for all users.Any user who is not a member can not access the proxy.

In your case make a group and add all members (remember you can highlight all users and using ctrl unselect the users you dont want to add to the group) then using the icon with the user head and arrow, join them all to this new group. Apply the group policy this way.
