Hello,

I went to an AITP meeting and talked to several sysadmins and all I can say is that they thought MySQL was something like My Documents or My Pictures.

I went to the MySQL how to and, to be kind, particularly for Windows peoples, it sucked like a gravitational singularity being a mixture of mostly *nix, some windows inserts and shell commands that challenge the understanding of NT/2k admins.

I set up a baby step howto for winnies,
which is for getting winnies going with their first table.

Does this serve a purpose? Should I keep on working on it? Is it better done somewhere else that I do not know about?

Thanks. Offline, if you like, j@roninsoftwaregroup.com

By all means do. Although I come from a Windows background and I didn't have much trouble with MySQL, I can see what you mean about the howto's.

But I still consider myself a beginner. :D

(BTW I would suggest starting by explaining WHAT MySQL is and why would one need to use it. Just a suggestion)

strella,

I think it's great. I plan on reading it all sometime soon.
Can I get that in .pdf format?

I only read a little bit just to get a flavor of it.
A couple of thoughts;

1.) (trivial) DOS/CLI HowTo for Windows experts or 'power users' comfortable with a Command Line Interface.
'for Windows experts' Should be changed to 'for DOS experts'
There are plenty of 'Windows experts' who seem scared to death of doing anything in DOS.

2.) the line ;
Put MySQLAdmin.EXE in the Windows startup folder...

Should say WinMySQLAdmin.EXE (a slight typo)

Believe me, I'm not looking for errors. They just jump out at me.

So far this looks great! This is the first time I've been able to find in print that the way to start the service is with winmysqladmin. (I haven't read all the docs yet).

It's nice to get confirmation that what I am doing is one of the right ways. I don't know if people take classes for MySQL, but I've been learning it on my own.

Maybe you could add this link to the FAQ section of this forum if you plan on keeping it at that web address.

BTW: Would you mind if I copied it and put on my site, if I give you the credit at the top of the page?

Hey Tgus, Thanks!

Thanks all for the feedback on/offline.

Please DO look for errors and send them along... I think I got the ones you noted.

btb: just moved from demo to permanent

"Can I get that in .pdf format?", unh, no, I have no PDF generator, but I suppose I could put a zip up of the material.

I'll add to faq. I think that is the right idea.

As for copying, thanks for asking, please do not.

I have this conversation with MySQL and I need to have an idea of unique users. I can tell you offline...

Thanks again
