allpos,

My company can definitely assist in migrating and upgrading your aloha server to windows 7 pro.

The g6950 is a CPU H55 is a chipset used by many manufacturers, the socket is 1156

Unless great strides have been made, getting Aloha Server up on Windows 7 64 bit is a problem.

If you have Win7 32 bit (not likely) it may be doable but XP would be less problematic

I suggest a downgrade to Windows XP Pro

Some H55 have a parallel port some have a header on the MB to go to a parallel port on a slot bracket. If you have a parallel hasp you need a parallel port. Lacking the port or the header you can add a parallel card. I prefer parallel hasp to USB any day. Otherwise you have to get a USB hasp from an Aloha dealer.

You will solve a lot of headaches by downgrading to XP
Get yourself a good tech and he can do it

H55 boards from Biostar have XP drivers so that should not be a problem

Have your tech make a backup image prior to the downgrade so if you are forced to upgrade to Win7 in several years you will be ready. By then Aloha should support Windows 7 fairly well.

You can search this forum for Windows 7 to see the problems 7 has had.

You can use Win732 bit on 6.4 but have had many problems using 6.1 on Win7. Usually I would upgrade to 6.5 first on you XP machine then do a fresh install on 6.5 on Win7 and copy the data over to the new machine. (Don't forget to add a super user to your employee database before upgrading to 6.5 - Alt+X does not exist in 6.4.

Ok that is plenty help, now i need steps to upgrade from 6.1 to 6.5 and keep my server running on win xp pro.can you help me on
that, do i have to turn off the fire box modem.

You will need to contact your dealer for a key upgrade. Your version of software is constrained by the key numbers and your hasp key.

The dealer that orignally sold the hasp key thru Radiant/NCR is the ONLY company that can upgrade your version of aloha.
