I've got a few Win 95 machines left on the network (can't upgrade due to important system that won't run on anything newer). They've got Office 97 installs on them that came from a network install source that is now gone from the network.

I need to uninstall and reinstall the Office apps from CD. When I try to uninstall the installer INSISTS that I show it the original install source. I can't seem to do a complete reinstall from the distribrution CD's without access to the old network volume!

How can I get Office 97 installed from the CD?

Hi, Richard.
Uninstall manually.
Go to (default, at least) C:\program files\microsoft office and remove all files. (I'm assuming you backed up all necessary custom settings files.)

Then, Start-Run and type regedit and hit enter.

Assuming you have no other versions of Office on these PCs...

Browse to:

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office

Right-click and delete (rename to be safe) the Office folder.

There is a download called Eraser97, which you can look for, but I suspect it might not alleviate your problems. This should do what Eraser does and more (maybe).

I suspect that Norton/Symantic CleanSweep would sort the problem out for you.

You can use the original media. Just pop in the CD and when it asks what you want to do select unistall/remove.
