I have a second hard drive that I want to use as a backup. I'd like to backup my primary drive once a week. To keep the backup as secure as possible I'd also like to automatically run a program to enable and disable access to the drive to minimize the chance of a virus or other data corruption on the backup drive.

I've searched high and low for such a program and only found one such example but it doesn't support a command line interface.

Does anyone know of such a piece of software?

Many thanks
Phil

There are software products that can "hide" partitions (like Partition Magic).
Or you could remove the power connection of the drive when you don't need it...

What file format are you using on your second drive? If you are using NTFS, then you can set permissions so that only the administrator can get to it.

temporello - I was hoping for an automated solution.

pweegar - Yes NTFS was the FS I was intending using. So would it be possible to use an automated backup solution that has administrator access?

Are there any security issues with solution? Don't services like Mail servers, DNS servers etc (such as on the machine in question) need administrator access?

Cheers,
Phil
