Hi all

i have a server set up, which my isp blocking port 25

is there anyway i could change the default smtp port in my ms exchange server from 25 to any other port ??

where do i change that, ? do i use any port ? lets say 1025 ??

Thanks in advance

Max

You do this on the SMTP Virtual Server. If memory servers, you can't change the default server, but you can add a second server and change it to whatever port you'd like.

Firstly ill assume you are talking about smtp for OUTGOING mail, in which case yes this is easy

Open exchange system manager, and drill through

servers->servername->protocols and do properties on your smtp server

on the general tab next to ip address there is an advanced tab, in here you can simply change the port used.

If you are talking about for incoming mail via SMTP then this would as other systems send to you on port 25 and this is not changeable

Ive never come across an ISP which blocks this port, might be worth looking elsewhere :)

A lot of ISP's block this port on the cheaper contracts.
If incoming is your problem, your MX record would point to port 25 anyway.
What you can try in that case is ask the MX record people to use 1025 or something to push to you. You on your side have to forward that port 1025 on the firewall or router to port 25 of the Exchange Server.
