There is only one website that I think is blocked on my computer. The website can be viewed by any other computer hooked up to the same modem and to the same cable outlet. I don't have any firewall softwares installed. I uninstalled Mcafee and removed all its files from the registry. I can't ping this website either. When I ping it gives me the following response:
ping
Pinging wa9g1.services.icdsatt.net [c78:d13::500:500:1:c00] with 32 bytes of dat
a:

Ping statistics for c78:d13::500:500:1:c00:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

I looked up the ip address for this website and I found it to be 12.120.9.19. When I type it in the address bar for IE I get this message:
Information Alert
Status : 300 Multiple Choices
Description : Your request could not be processed for this multi-homed web site because no host header was present that identifies which host to access

When I type the address itself it gives me: This page cannot be displayed.

When I try to ping the ip address itself I get timed out.

Does anybody know how to unblock this website?

Open a command shell, type 'telnet 12.120.9.19 80' and wait for a connect.

Once you are connected type 'GET / HTTP/1.1<enter>'
and then 'Host:
If the data that comes back is not an error, like 300, 404, 500, etc. (should actually be a 200 response, but that will scroll by very quickly), then it is a browser issue.

I'm guessing that it is a browser issue based on your error message, but without knowing which version of which browser and what options have been set or not, it is difficult to tell.

First off, it is my bad that I didn't note my configuration:
win xp home edition (sp1), IE6. I have default setting for all my internet options.
I followed the instructions you gave. As soon as I type in 'Get/http/1.1<enter> I get a this response and I don't get to type the host command:

HTTP/1.0 400 Bad Request
Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Length: 1555
Pragma: no-cache

<html>

</tr>
</table>
</center></div>
</body>
</html>

Connection to host lost.

I don't recall for sure, but the web server may be case sensitive as well. You can just cut and paste the lines from this forum.

Good catch Daniel.

That's right I missed the spaces. I entered it right this time and got no error messages, so it is most probably my browser. Any advices. I don't know how to uninstall it the reinstall it again.

I would doubt that it's your browser. Do you have IPv6 installed on your computer? It seems like your computer is resolving it to an IPv6 address, which you would not be able to contact.

You know Daniel, I believe that you are right. I blew right past the address information, but there it is, an IPv6 address as a response to the ping.

I checked and found that I do have TCP/IP version 6. This is new to me. Do u think I should uninstall it?

You should definitely uninstall it. You are obviously on an IPv4 network, so it is unneeded.

I did uninstall the IPv6. I can now view the website. I can also ping it but get timed out. Here are three articles from the microsoft Knowlege base:

It is not enough to uncheck TCP/IPv6 in the network properties, you have to uninstall it.

Al jazeera ( or whatever that sat station is called ) had massive denial of service attacks done against it, and that's probably the reason ICMP responses are simply not coming back. simply put, it's been disabled.

I remember something about it on slashdot &quot;aljazeera DDoSed out of existence&quot; within it's first week of operation, probably by some people thinking that freedom of speech and opinion only applies to americans..... *sigh*

There is also the possibility, which might be a very small thing, that your ISP has blocked that site. i don't think it's the case, but it might be something to think about if all else fails to call them and ask.
