how to turn off shaddow effect later

Hello,
I had this problem - if a shaddow was applied to some object and later on I want to get rid of it, I don't know how. I I had just applied it then I can undo it , but what if a want to do it later, e.g. when a work was saved and opened some time later. Then I usually click on shaddow tool and change the shaddow color to white or make parematres to zero all. Please help, this must be a basic skill.. ("Current effect rollup " doesn't work this out)

Marquee select the object and the shadow. In version 10 go to Arrange>Break Shadow Group Apart. Then select just the shadow and hit the delete key. In version 8, after selecting the object and the shadow go to Arrange>Separate. Then hit the delete key.

I must have been asleep at the wheel when I wrote the previous responce. There is an even easier method to getting rid of a drop shadow. Just select the object and the drop shadow and go to Effects>Clear Drop Shadow. The show will magically dissapear.
