How to tell where a mapped network drive is actually pointing to?

Suppose you have a Z:\ mapping on your desktop computer that really leads to D:\client files\Smith on a server. Now suppose you didn't set up the mapping, so you don't know where it actually points to. How can you figure this out? I have tried netuse but that doesn't show which drive on the server it is pointing to... it shows servername\folder\folder\ but its missing D: or E:, etc...

sorry if it's a dumb question but i'm tired as hell and can't figure it out.

thanks

As you've seen, if you look at the mapped drive details (by netuse or whatever), you'll see that it points to the server name and share name. This share is relative to that particular server, so the only way to know for sure where the filestore physically is, is to look at the shares for that particular server. You can do this directly at the server, or if you have the correct permsissions, you can use computer managment (compmgmt.msc) to remotely view the share information on the server.
