Please help, real novice here.

We have a Merlin phone system and I have a BIS-34D phone on my desk. I recently moved to a new office down he hall. The phone in my old office (extension 24) would notify me when I had a voicemail (the light would luminate). The phone in my new office is programmed for extension 22 and therefore the message light now comes on when ext. 22 gets a message.

Can I switch extensions on the phone system so the message light for extension 24 is in my new office instead of 22 ?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Bill

Yes you should be able to swop. I could tell you a few ways, so require tools. But we will keep it simple (KISS). Your switch should have a lot of jacks in the front. You just need to find 22, 24 & swop them. Now you said you have voicemail so that tells me they may not be in order. so you may have to give more info. It could also be the older Merlin 820 or something like that with the add on voicemail. If that is the case them the ports are in order. You start with 10 and the 11, 12,13.... ect. You could also do it after hours with your phone in the switch/server room/Area, & just unplug phones then plug your in check what extension you have till you find 22, & 24 then swop them.

Let me know if that works or post more info & I'll try to walk you through it.

good luck

Bummer... I was hoping I could program it from the phone and not have to climb up to where the PBX inputs are. I looked at them and they are not labled at all. It has twisted pair wires at the top and connectors at the bottom. So I would have to hunt and peck for the right connection. Any ideas?

take your 34D back to switch, it looks like you may have a merlin 11 or legend, if the modules say 408 look at the second 408 module, stating from the bottom count up 6 ports shold be 22 ,use your 34Display to verifry, push down program button on left side , in your display should say ext 22, than go up 2port do the same, if ext 24 just swap cables, thats it first 408 module ext 10 to 17, the top 5 ports are lines & power failure

Is it a Legend? If so, you can renumber if you have an operator extension that can access programming.

does the renumber move the forward to mail on that system, hardware is safer for most end-users.. just my o

The renumber doesn't move the Message Waiting light, but the voice mailbox is still there, numbered the same, no matter which physical port takes on the extension number.

On a newer release Magix, there is a procedure in Maintaince to clear the MW lights, and then refresh them.

Older systems, either clear the messages, turning the lights off before renumberering, or manually turn them off afterwards.

Thank you all for your help. I took the phone into the switch room, unplugged a cable, plugged it into my phone and ultimately found the two extenions I needed. Swapped them on the board and I now have my old extension in my new office. Thanks again for all your help!

you are now certified, tell your manager you need a raise
