This is driving me nuts.

I have a subreport placed in a detail line of my mainreport. My layout of my mainreport is like this:

[tt]

GpH1 ==> Item number
det ==> Qty Loc#1 (subreport for unit cost)
det ==> Qty Loc#2 (subreport for unit cost)
GpF1 ==> Total Qty times unit cost to get Total cost for item
[/tt]

Now I realize I don't have to get the cost twice for the same item number but if I place the subreport anywhere else it either comes back with a value of zero or the value of the previous item. I even tried placing it in a det(a) underlaying det(b) where I placed the Qty fields. I get the correct values this way that I am doing it but the person I am doing the report for does not have to see all the differnt Loc's for the same item, just the total for the item and the extended cost. If I attemp to suppress the detail sections of the mainreport my shared variable comes back as zero and my extended costs calculate to $0.00.

Thanks for your help

I'm having the same issue. I'm using a subreport and shared variable, but only for background purposes, I don't need to show the subreport. But when I suppress it or put it in another section I loose the data and my totals are 0.

Any way around this?

let me understand this...

You have a given item number at different locations...you want the unit cost that is common for each location but different quantities.

Cannot this be done completely in one subreport...including the footer?

just pass the item number and have the subreport do the rest...or is there more to this problem....a sample of desirted output would be useful

Jim,

There is much more infomration that the subreport must bring back and depending on the location of the warehouse will determine many other things like different vendors, costs of the items and other things besides useages etc. I ended up inserting an extra detail section B and in section A I have placed the subreport, set format section for detail A to underlay detail B and the information comes out just fine. I am experimenting with creating and using VIEWS and this may allow me to create a view and remove the subreports. VIEWS are more efficient in my opinion (well at least so far from what I can see they can do for you).

Thanks
Mark

Ok then...if I understand then it is the Footer information that the user wants to see....not the subreport details.

I get the feeling that you haven't told me the whole story of the output....but let us say I am correct in my assumption.

You are calculating the correct values so the shared values are passing back ok.

So just suppress all the sections of the subreports so they won't display and make the subreports as small as possible to hide them.
