hey, everybody, I am new to Linux.

I have RH-8 installed, and using vsftp, it is started by xinetd...i m trying to use wu-ftp, so i want to stop the previous vsftpd, i've disabled it in the conf file, how can i stop it without restart the server?

Cheers,
Ly

Try
/etc/init.d/vsftpd stop
or
/etc/init.d/vsftp stop
or
service vsftpd stop
or
service vsftp stop

Try one of these commands. One of them should work. Good Luck.

thanks...

I tried vsftpd stop, i was told that it is not start-alone, try to use inetd...

when i tried

service xinetd stop
service xinetd start

the service restarted ok, but to my shock the ftp is still there, and i can connect to it as before...

What happening?

Look in /etc/xinet.d/ dir, there is probably a file called vsftp. Edit it to change to disable, or delete it.
