how to start share point

Hi All ,

This is my first post.

I like to start using share point for set up my company web site , not sure that share point it is the right software for use for set up company web site ? Hope some one can advise me. ( I have search info from goggle , but able to confirm ).

I wanted to use WSS 3.0 for set up web site , and i know that WSS 3.0 is free trail version and it can trail forever.

pls give me the link .i need to know the other software i need to buy to set up a web site using WSS 3.0 .

Do you have a web server setup already?

The only other product you MAY need if you wish tio change the layout of the site is sharepoint designer which you have already downloaded, that's all you need.

To get the site visable on the internet You will need to modify Alternet Access Maping

Now i have already using WSS 3.0 for office intranet , and i am still update all the data . it is better i create one more site for internet , or create one site for both intrnet and internet ? which is better ? any advise on this ?

How about for WSS 3.0 to connect to internet , i read some where it mentioned that need to buy software from microsoft software for wss to connect to internet. ( for intranet is FOC ) any idea what software it that ?

I am begining to run out help for you here moving beyound my experience but as far as i am aware you do not have to buy any further software to get the site on the internet( someone else might want to jump in here and add more), you just need to set up alternet access maping as per the second link above.
As for the sites, not quite sure what you are after here, do you want a site that only employees can see plus a site that the public can see? I would create the one site with a login link for the intranet site.
Not that sure how to go about making that haven't done it myself, your moving into unknown territory for me. I have another resource at home will have a read tonight and see if there is any help in there.

Hi max ,

I already set up intranet which all my employee are using it . and it have many confidential information in this intrnet site.

now i like to move one step further , create a site for my group of company , and allow all the 30 company to upload file to this public site , the aim is to promote all 30 company product and service . ( the reasons i like WSS , is because i can assign all 30 company each company have one staff help to update and up load product information on the web site. ) most impt it is free.

Do you think it is possible ? to achieve the above with WSS 3.0 ?

one more questions is , may i know how much does it cost to get other company to host this web site ? per year about how much ? i just need to know the estimate cost for my planing purpose.

Hi Paul,
ok so you have the intranet site setup now you need others employees from outside your building to also log in to use the site. Is that right?
In that case what i would do is create a new site for the internet with a link to the intranet site where users are then asked to log in with username and password.

if you look at the links along the bottom of the page there is one for staff if you click on that it then asks for username and password this logs them into there intranet site which uses wws.3.0.

would something like that suit?

Hi Max , Thank you veyr much for the link you provide . it is good tips for me .

By the way can you recommend me one more site ( if you know ) , they use share point to create a internet site for customer .

As i plan to use share point WSS 3.0 to create site for customer log in . and my internet company staff will use share point wSS 3.0 for intranet. ( 2 seperate site ) but can be access by pass word if our staff log into internet site.

some time back you wrote the above message , can you give me some hints how to set up the site , so user don't need enter user name and pass word , as now i need when user log into my site they need to enter user name and pass word.
