I reinstalled my PC with windows XP and suddenly my Soundblaster Live malfunctions !
It has installed properly with the updated-xp drivers from creative, but i hear no sound.
When i look at device-manager it says "device is properly installed and well functioning".
But when i ask the properties of the soundblaster live device under media devices it says drivers enabled but the device has not started.
I don't see any related problem in event viewer.
Is there any possibility to start it manually.
(I know in NT you could see error messages you would otherwise not see) It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

Oh, yes, i forgot to tell:
I can't change any IRQ too, the device is sharing IRQ 5 with my video card, maybe changing this would help (if i could) It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

Go to sounds in control panel click on audio tab and make sure SBlive is listed in drop down boxes.

It's not listed.
When i run the creative diagnostic tool, i get the error :"ther is no soundblaster live installed in you system" while i can see it in device manager It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

There is an driver update on the Windows update Website!
Also 2 compatitility update packs. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

I would recommend going into you bios and making sure you have assingned a unique IRQ for VGA, this should ensure your graphic card does not share the same IRQ as the Soundcard.

You should also see if there is a new Motherboard Bios available as this solved a lot of soundblaster/xp issues I recently had.

Good luck

I have been thinking of that too, but i installed xp on another partition too, so i could compare them.
On the other partition everything works fine, without any updates or additional drivers from manufacturer's cdrom.
When i compare any drivers, IRQ, settings they all seems to be identically, except for one driver, emu10k1m.sys wich is replaced by emu10k1f.sys with the non-working OS.
I've replaced every reference to that emu10kf.sys in the ini -files and after i reïnstalled my sblive, it used emu10k1m.sys instead. Result : the same ?? It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious.

Ah, what SB Live is this ? Is it an OLD one ?

If it is a newer SB LIve 5.1, then I would say my question is irrelevant, as I have had NO problems with the newer SB Lives.

ALSO: Can you MOVE that SB LIVE into another PCI SLOT ?

Use your mainboard to help you see what IRQ's get used with what PCI slots.

*** ALSO: DISABLE those worthless SERIAL PORTS in the BIOS. That will free up 2 IRQ's.
