Hello! I need your help guys. Verizon DSL requires a software to be installed before I can begin using the Internet connection. How will I be able to share it to multiple computers using a router then? I saw many format like this.

dsl modem-------dsl router----computers

How will I do this? Do I really need to install that software? Is there any other option aside from Verizon for DSL connection in Virginia metro area, it anyone knows? Thanks..

If I remember right, verizon is using a ppoe connection. A ppoe is a Acronym for Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. PPPoE relies on two widely accepted standards: PPP and Ethernet. PPPoE is a specification for connecting the users on an Ethernet to the Internet through a common broadband medium, such as a single DSL line, wireless device or cable modem. All the users over the Ethernet share a common connection, so the Ethernet principles supporting multiple users in a LAN combine with the principles of PPP, which apply to serial connections.
You will need to install the software in order to login into the verizon lan. However you can use a simply Linksys router that supports ppoe. You should be able to find several router that support this.

Thanks, now I know what that PPPoE means. So basically I have the option of not installing the Verizon software? How do I do that? Can you give me an overview please?

If yo udont install the Verizon software, you will not be able to access the internetg though Verizon. The software allows you to login to the Verizon network thus giving you access to the internet. My suggestion is to purchase a router that supports Ppoe. Then you can share the connection to the net without installing the software onto on of your computers. This is very easy to setup.
