ok newbee ?

how do you setup WPA on the wap54g and wpc 54g card ??

i read a linksys tech note, but doesnt explain exactly.
also, is TKIP better or AES ??

thanks gang

Hi,

TKIP uses a strong encryption method that adds a Message Integrity Code (MIC) for added protection. AES uses a symmetric 128-Bit block for data encryption.

Before setting up WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security across your wireless network, be sure to have the compatible wireless adapters and proper software in order to receive the signal.

Compatible Linksys Wireless Adapters at this time include:

WPC11 v3 with driver 3.0.4.205 or higher (Windows XP or 2000 users only).

WPC54G with driver 3.10.53.6 or higher (Windows XP or 2000 users only).

WMP54G with driver 3.20.23 or higher (Windows XP or 2000 users only).

check your driver version though once you installed it >

if your'e operating system is XP i suggest you install SERVICE PACK 2. it's compatible with WPA

if it's 2000 > then you'll need a third party software which is usually the Odyssey software included when you purchase the card.

have xp sp2
w/ driver 3.30.15 on the WPC54g card

what's the steps though to set it up ?
what is step1, step2 etc......

thanks NemoTek

HI,

here's what you need to do first.

verify the model of your router, see if it's supporting WPA.

If you have XP SP2, and a WPA capable router or access point, use Control Panel, Wireless Network Setup Wizard.

is that easy, so it should walk me
through setup of the 2 ?

Thanks B !!

np
just didnt want to mess it up(since wify is also using laptop)
and get her/i locked out

best is to plug cat5 directly into WRT54g
and configure correct ?
that way when settings are applied i can still connect and test ?

It is generally recommended to use a wired connection to the router during setup.

i will go through the wizard,
but dont want to mess up what i have already setup

thanks Bud !!
