how to setup WebDAV like FTP in user isolation mode?

I am trying to give users access to both their personal files and shared files from home.
Currently I have FTP setup in user isolation mode with Active Directory which works fine, except it isn't very secure. Is it possible to setup something similar using WebDAV? I have no experience of WebDAV, but I have it installed on my webserver ready for one of you gurus to help me get it working.

Any takers?
