We just got a new fax machine that can answer and send faxes over two lines. Right now I just have one fax line set up on a T/R analog card. There is a DID assigned to that extension. What I want to do is add a second line but have it assigned to that DID. Basically when someone tries to send us a fax by calling that DID number, if the first line is busy the second line should answer. If both lines are busy, they should just get a busy signal. I am thinking this should be pretty simple, just assign a group to these two extensions or something like that. Problem is I have never set up groups and I am not that experienced with this system. Oh the version we are running is merlin magix 2.2. Thanks for any assistance!

Here is what I suggest:

Take the 2 DID's and make 2 Hunt Groups
Take the two fax extensions and renumber them to non DID
Place both fax extensions in both Hunt groups
Set both hunt groups to ring linear

This will give you 2 fax numbers people can call into. If one fax is busy it will roll into the other fax.

Hope this helps

Ok I think I understand this. Also there would just be one DID involved. That DID should just ring whichever fax line is open. Sounds like I could just do one hunt group in that case then. Also hunt group, is that the same as a calling group? Looks like I need to take the DID, put in in a coverage group, then put the coverage group in a calling group. The whole coverage group / calling group thing is confusing.

Basically, renumber the existing the analog ext (that matches the DID to a non DID).

Create a calling group with the 2 analog extensions in it and REN the group to match the original DID, you don't have to worry about cover groups.

OR

Don't change anything on the existing DID and put a delayed Primary Cover button of the original analog extension on the secondary analog extension.
