how do i set sub interfaces on 2600 routers

A+,Net+

interface fastethernet 0.1
interface fastethernet 0.2

if you have a 10-meg interface (ethernet) you can sub-interface but only to run IPX. Unless you have the new 2600XM's.

actually, on 2600's you can use dot1q if you have IOS 12.2(I think) or newer. I am running a build of 12.2(2) and it works fine. Just be sure you make the subinterface a trunk before you put an ip on it, or you will get an error message.

The correct main interface syntax for a 2600 series is: interface [module/port]
Hence the subinterfaces would be in the format:
interface fastethernet0/0.1 or fa0/0.1
interface fastethernet0/1.1 or fa0/1.1
interface serial0/0.1 or s0/0.1 etc......
