Hi! I have installed on my PC another software that can open 2D & 3D pictures. After installing, this software was setup as the default application to open bmp, jpg, gif, etc. How can i set my windows to call Paintbrush whenever i am opening these type of files?

Thanks.

By Paintbrush you mean MSPaint right? Just do this. Locate a jpg or jpeg file and right click on it while holding the shift key down. Then select 'open with' on the menu. When the next screen pops up scroll down and click once on MSPaint to highlight it and then place a check in the "always use this program etc..." box and click ok. Now your pics will open in Paint by default. Do the same for .bmp files. You can always change it using the same method.

The way that Kento mentioned works well, here is another way to just do it all at once:

open any folder (even right click on the start menu and click on open.)then go to Tools> folder options > file type,
here, find the file ext. that you want to change the association for and then click the change botton and change the program associated with that file.

let us know if this works for you.
ps. i am in front of a 2k system rigth now so I am not sure if the path that I wrote is entirly correct, if not, it will be close.

Libay,

I think the best way to do this is by going to View>FolderOptions, click the FileTypes tab, locate those types, click the Edit button, and type in "C:\Program Files\Accessories\MSPAINT.EXE" %1 in the "application used to perform action" box.

What difference does it make? Either way works just fine.

The difference it makes is it doesn't define the filetype correctly when you right-click and use the open with... box.

It leaves the registry scattered with filetypes such as jpeg_auto file, gif_auto file. Actually, they should be listed as JPEG Image, and their (ContentType) defined also.

I'm not answering questions for competition, I'm trying to give the questioner the best solution. That's what important, isn't it?
