Hello,

Whenever I open new link in Internet explorer the new window opened with fixed small size and I need to maximize it. How coan I change that so every link that is opened in new browser will be opened in a maximized Window?

ie remembers its last settings

Close all ie windows
open ie
set it up how you want it to be & close it

That view will now be the default

Dear stduc,

Well, I did that and even after closing all the browsers I still receive the same result as before...

some pages specify what size the window will be (maximize, restore down). do all pages open in small window? or some are max?

Right Click on the IE icon on your desktop, create a shortcut for it, next right click on the shortcut you just created, and select properties, in the properties window select the Run drop down and change it from "Normal Window" to "Maximized"
Select OK, and use the shortcut from now on, might be a good idea to delete the original IE icon from your desktop

^^^ but doing that will stop the Right click->Properties going straight to the internet options. It also makes that annoying little arrow on the IE icon.

Just so everyone knows!

There's something odd going on here. stduc is right - what he says is normal behaviour.

So, I would ask thelordoftherings. Are you an admin user? Are you a member of a domain with limited rights?

I might even get suspicious that some kind of malware was at work here. So I would close all ie windows and check that iexplore.exe was not running.

Don't delete the current ie icon on your desktop. It is not a shortcut. Go into display properties/desktop and untick it there.

Try this...

1) Open a link in a new browser window.
2) Re-size the browser window manually by dragging the sides.
3) Hold down the CTRL key and click on the top-right X to close the browser window (instead of using 'File > Close').
4) Hold down the CTRL key and click on the top-right X to close any remaining browser windows.

Does this now retain the windows settings for new links?

Hello guys,

Thank you all for your kind help and support. Unfortunally none of the suggestions solved the problem. The only change I've noticed is after applying Rick998 suggestion. The new window keep opening in a fixed small size yet it changed the place it opens itself from the bottom right corner to the upper left corner of the screen...

Hey Rick998,

The above arcticle solved my problem partlly, now the browser opens to a manual size I've defined. But how do you cause it to open a maximized window? At the moment it opens it at the maximum size available when you set it manually with the cursor...

I couldn't get my settings to stick at maximized using the 'maximize' button (and SHIFT + X button) so ended up using the manual re-size method and dragging out to the edges of the screen (and SHIFT + X button).

Hope this helps...

So if I understand you correctly it's not possible to get a maximized new browser window and I shouls leave it like this (the maximum size possible manually)?

I'm not saying it's not possible... just that I couldn't get 'maximized' to stick reliably for me (and didn't have the patience to keep trying <grin>).

Apparantly so, for you. It shouldn't be like this though. Something is wrong with your setup. But as to what, I have no idea. If it bothers you enough, you could try.

Totally ensuring your system is malware free.
Running one or more of the registry fix programs.
Returning to a restore point when ie behaved itself.
A system repair.
A full re-install of the O/S.

Sorry but I'm not at all sure that something is wrong with thelordoftherings' setup. The 'IE browser window forgets size' problem is widely regarded as an IE bug.
