For quite a while I´ve been looking for a way around the problem with the SendObject method of sending mail from Access2000. Since my users would have different mail clients, or no client at all, I needed a way to send the mail directly through the mail server. Finally I´ve found a solution. I found a free SMTP component to download and use with Access, and swoosh! now I can do everything I want (almost anyway). If anyone should have the same problem, this is a free component for your convenience:

Just make sure to add it to your references, and then you can use it.

I hope this helps someone, it sure helped me!

MAPI = "Mail Application Iterface"
The problem with No e-mial at all is there is no MAPI interface to send the mail out through.
That's like some one trying to call you on the phone and you have no telephone hanging on the wall. It Can't work!!!

Any mail at all works? What is the problem with that???
The send object sends the item to a MAPI compliant source.
It's in their e-mails outbox.
If their e-mail is not running then it can't possibly send it out cause there is no MAPI session.

So the next time they open their e-mail program and send and receive, it will go out then.

I would suppose that you make them have e-mail.
Just like installing some of Microsofts new softare it requires Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Why casue the help is in there. You either keep up with technology or use pen and paper.

Hi Doug!

I´m not really sure what you´re getting at here... It doesn´t look like you´ve responded to what I have written, or maybe you´ve just misunderstood what I´ve said.

I understand the theory of MAPI and it is useful, but partly because SendObject crashes Access2000 and because I unfortunately do not have the authority to decide which email client everybody should use, I had to look for a different solution.

I hope this hasn´t upset you in any way.
