I am working with a Customer that has a CICS with 8 lines and 16 sets and Voice Mail, He is using S/W V1 and has had the system unlocked with Key Codes. However one of the cards is bad and when I replace it with a New one it only shows it being 4x8 and I also don't have the VM anymore. Is there a way we can obtain the OLD CODES? The Company that installed the system 3 years ago has gone out of business and did leave a record of the Codes.

Thanks

here's a few thoughts..... the phone system does not change it's system id when you change cards around/upgrade however if you were to remove the 8 port station expansion and power the system up I would expect the system to default, changing the system id leaving you up the proverbial creek...
"The Company that installed the system 3 years ago has gone out of business and did leave a record of the Codes." check your system id to see if it has changed if not re enter your codes. If that was meant to read "didn't leave a record of the codes" there is no way to get the old ones back.
your voicemail is not working because it is on stations 109-124??

Well thanks for the reply. That was what I thought. It will seem that I will have to make them UPGRADE the Software to something newer. I already told them that I was sure they would have to. And yea the Old installers didn't leave a record of the Key Codes. Thanks for the Fast Reply. Now that I have this information I can let them know. They are afraid I was trying to take them for money they did not need to spend. However I only find that to be 1 out of 100 people we do work for around the WA state. Again Thanks.

you should be able to call Nortel, give them your Sys ID, and they can give "Recovery Codes".

CICS software package is being sold in versions:

RESTRICTED - 8 sets
STANDARD - 16 sets
EXPANDED - 24 sets

Roland, and to everyone one that has helped. Thanks. The system is working now with out a problem. James the Owner talked to a few people from this Forum yesterday now the system has been taken care of. Roland. Not sure what happened but we replaced the card with a CID card not the DS card and now the system works great without any new Key Codes. The old ones stayed in tact. James him self said that it was odd to see a Restricted 4X8 expanded to 8X16 with Voice Mail. Our Client is still running the 1.0 and we will be upgrading them with a NEW KSU in 2003. James would like to say thanks to the one that was kind enough to call and help out with all the information even if it was not as eventful as we would have liked.

THANKS.

A suggestion to installers is that since the key codes are only good on the KSU that you first initiate it on I take a sharpie and write it on the inside of the door or on the side of a CICS. this way the key code stays even if the documentation is lost. JerryReeve

Hey Jerry.
I am glad to see that others do that too. I have been installing for a little while once I lost the Key Codes and I did not know what I was going to do. When I remembered where the package with backups on site was. I wrote them inside the door, Now if I find them on a new site in the Paper work I add them to the cover.

Jack.

It seems like a pretty lame thing to me that you can't see the keycodes you've entered even on a backup thru the Workbook Excel files. I have seen unnecessary purchasing of keycodes for this very reason.

IMPORTANT
Has anyone had experiences with accidentally changing your KSU System ID? This is a variation that can happen on a Modular ICS if you DOWNGRADE KSU software. I've seen this happen many times in trying to find out what is causing it. If that occurs and you have lets say a PRI keycode then you may purhasing a new one. The situation is rare since people wanting to downgrade are few. I say this only because of the new offering of MICS 6.0 software slated to come out very soon. As with many first offerings of upgraded s/w, gliches have been seen making someone think longingly of the previous software they have in hand. Since many of these MICS units will have PRI keycodes in them, be aware of what I have seen with downgrading KSU software on an MICS. Please, if someone wants to duplicate it on a non keycoded unit, try it. I am offering this information to save someone some unwanted suprises, scambling and extra expense. darnold@americaii.com
